The Jomard Islands are an uninhabited group of islands in the Louisiade archipelago . Politically, they belong to the Milne Bay province in the southeastern part of Papua New Guinea .
The two islands in the group are located on the south side of the Jomard Passage, a 9 km wide passage between the Bramble Haven atoll to the west and the western edge of the Vanatinai barrier reef to the east.
The largest of the islands, Pana Waipona (79 ha ), is located on a small reef in the middle of the Jomard Passage, the smaller island Pana Rai Rai (17 ha) is 3.5 km east on a larger reef on the eastern edge of the Jomard -Passage. Both islands are forested and lie on the northern edges of their shallow, reef-fringed lagoons .
The Jomard Islands have been in the “Mixed Objects” category since 2006, which combines criteria of both cultural and natural heritage, together with the Conflict Islands , Bramble Haven, Samarai and Lunn Island under the name: Milne Bay Seascape (Pacific Jewels of Marine Biodiversity) on the Tentative list of Papua New Guinea for the list of world heritage of UNESCO .
