Jon Gunnes (born November 8, 1956 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian politician of the social liberal party Venstre . He has been a member of parliament in Storting since 2017 .

Life

Gunnes studied at the Trondheim Engineering College until 1979 and then worked for the Norwegian energy company Statkraft . From 1982 to 1984 he studied economics at the University of Oslo . He then continued to work as an engineer, including at the Trondheim energy plant. Between 1997 and 2007 he worked as a department head at the Trondheim IT company Powel. From 2006 to 2008 he was chairman of the Byåsen IL sports club .

From 1995 to 1999 he was a member of the Trondheim local parliament and chairman of the Trondheim Venstre party. Between 2001 and 2009 he was finally chairman of Venstre in what was then the province of Sør-Trøndelag . From 2007 to 2017 he was again a member of the Trondheim City Council.

Gunnes entered the Norwegian national parliament in Storting in the 2017 general election for the constituency of Sør-Trøndelag . He became the first Venstre MP from the constituency for over 30 years. Gunnes became a member of Parliament's Transport and Communications Committee, where he became second vice-chairman.
