Jonas Alströmmer

Jonas Alströmmer (born January 7, 1685 in Alingsås ; † June 2, 1761 ) was a Swedish agricultural and industrial pioneer and co-founder of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences .

Life

Alström began his career as an employee of a shipping company in London . Back in Sweden, he opened a wool factory in his birthplace in 1724. He later founded a sugar refinery in Gothenburg and was one of the first directors to run the Swedish East India Company . Wealthy and wealthy, he supported other young entrepreneurs financially and with his know-how. In addition, he promoted farms and convinced them to plant potatoes. He achieved his greatest success with promoting sheep breeding in Sweden.

Jonas Alström was married twice and had three sons, among whom Claes Alströmer became an important natural scientist.

Alström was honored during his lifetime for his services. The Swedish royal court ennobled him and awarded him the North Star Order in 1748 . The Swedish Post has created a stamp in his honor and his image can be found on the original Lant Chips from IKEA .
