Jonathan Kaye (born August 2, 1970 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American professional golfer of the PGA TOUR .

Career

As an amateur, he won the Ping Intercollegiate in the jump-off against Phil Mickelson in 1992 , became a professional golfer in 1993 and made his debut on the PGA TOUR the following year . Due to a few injuries, his first few seasons are irregular and Kaye often switches to the second ranked Nationwide Tour . Starting in 1998, Kaye has been consistently eligible to play on the tour through numerous top 10 placements (including some second and third places) and has so far won two tournaments. Another win - the first - he awarded in 2002 in the jump-off. He taught himself the game of golf and says with a wink that no one else could teach him such a golf swing .

Oddities

Kaye is also known for his unorthodox behavior. The most noticeable incident in his career happened in 2001, one month after the unspeakable 9/11 attack, and caused a violent media stir. At the Michelob Championship at Kingsmill Golf Club , Kaye leads the tournament after two rounds and heads towards the locker room. A security guard denied him entry because he had not visibly attached an identification card. Kaye finds the ID card and provocatively attaches it to the zipper of his pants. The security man complains and Kaye is banned from the tournament for two months by PGA Tour agent Tim Finchem. This scandal has since been kept silent by the tour officials, and neither Kaye nor the man from the security service are allowed to comment on it.
