Jonathan Nelson is an American gospel singer from Baltimore .

biography

Nelson is the son of a pastor and grew up in a musical family with church music. He attended the Baltimore School for the Arts and studied choral singing at Morgan State University in his hometown. After that he worked very successfully in the computer industry as a manager of a software company, which failed after the dot-com bubble burst in 2000.

After that he turned more to music. He began composing gospel songs and also made his own recordings with other singers under the name Purpose . His song Healed became a hit in the Donald Lawrence recording and earned him a 2006 Stellar Award for Songwriter of the Year. Right Place became a hit for Troy Sneed and wrote the number one gospel song The Struggle Is Over for Youth for Christ .

In 2008, Jonathan Nelson released his first real album, Right Now Praise , which made it to number 7 on the US gospel charts and stayed in the charts for 78 weeks. The song My Praise Is Victory lasted 65 weeks. He was then nominated for eight Stellar Awards , three of which he won. He was nominated for best newcomer at the Dove Awards .

In October 2010, album number two, Better Days followed . It reached number 4 on the gospel charts and was even listed on the official Billboard 200 for a week .
