Jonathan Shay

Jonathan Shay (* 1941 ) is an American psychiatrist . He was primarily concerned with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Shay graduated from Harvard University and received his bachelor's degree in 1963 . He then moved to the University of Pennsylvania , where he received his MD in 1971 and his Ph.D. in 1972. acquired. Since 1987 he has been a psychiatrist at the Department of Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Boston , Massachusetts . Shay received the MacArthur Fellowship for his work .

Scientific work

Shay has authored several books on PTSD. The two best known are Achilles in Vietnam - Combat Trauma and the Undoing of Character (German: Achill in Vietnam - Kampftrauma und Personalitys loss ) and Odysseus in America: Combat Trauma and the Trials of Homecoming .
