Jordanes annals
The Jordanes Annals ( Polish Rocznik Jordana or Rocznik Jordana Gaudentego i ) are the oldest in Poland resulting Annalen . However, they are only passed down indirectly.
The annals were kept in Gniezno from around 970 and first reproduce the text of the Fulda annals , which may have been brought from the Czech Republic by the missionary bishop Jordanes . The Jordanes annals contain news about the history of Poland from 965 onwards.
The oldest messages include:
- 965 "Dobrauka uenit ad Miskonem" ( Dobravka came to Mieszko )
- 966 "Mysko dux baptizatur" (Duke Mieszko is baptized)
- 967 "Boleslaus Magnus natus est" ( Bolesław the Great is born)
After Jordanes' death, Gaudentius of Gniezno took over the care of the annals. Around the year 1000 entries appear on the life and martyrdom of Adalbert von Prag . The text was included in the Richeza annals , which were also kept at the same time, around 1032 , which means that it was retained for Polish annalists. Because the original was carried on from the country by Břetislav I in 1039 as spoils of war .
