Jorge Marziali

Jorge Marziali (born February 19, 1947 in San José , Guaymallén district , Mendoza province ; † July 9, 2017 in Santa Clara , Cuba ) was an Argentine cantorist .

The son of Italian immigrants brought out his first four-track record while studying communications in 1972. He worked in his hometown as editor of the Clarín newspaper and El Diario, edited by Jacobo Timerman . In 1976 he went to Buenos Aires , where he was in charge of a music section at Clarín . His debut album Como un gran viento que sopla appeared here in 1983 with successful titles such as Este Manuel que yo canto ( dedicated to Manuel Castilla ) and Coplas de la libertad (based on verses by Daniel Giribaldi ). At the same time he was conducting a program on Argentine folk music on Radio Belgrano .

For El niño de la estrella he received first prize in 1997 in the singing category at the competition 30 años de la muerte del Che Guevara . In 1998 he went on a concert tour to Havana. In the same year the cultural secretariat of Buenos Aires declared him Maestro del alma . On the album Padentrano (2004) Marziali sang titles by Creole musicians such as Hilario Cuadros , Chabuca Granda , Alfredo Zitarrosa , Buenaventura Luna and Tejada Gómez . In 2010 he published the volume of poetry El amor en otro sitio .

Jorge Marziali died of a heart attack in Cuba, where he was staying because of his planned performance at a festival.
