Jorge Trindade Neves de Camões (born February 18, 1969 in Lautém , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese diplomat. Most recently, he was East Timor’s Ambassador to Vietnam .

Career

Camões attended primary and secondary schools in Dili and Baucau . In Jakarta , he received a Bachelor's degree in Social and Cultural Philosophy from the Driyarkara School of Philosophy in 1996 .

From 1997 to 1999 Camões worked for the BIAHULA Foundation on a community development project funded by Australian Development Aid. He was a member of the Conselho Nacional de Resistência Timorense (CNRT).

While preparing to return to East Timor’s independence, Camões began working for the newly established Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001. He took special training in English, Human Rights, Information Technology and International Diplomacy in Australia , Norway , Malaysia , Indonesia and South Korea . Camões initially worked at the East Timorese Embassy in Jakarta as first secretary before becoming Charge d'Affaires ad interim in the East Timorese Embassy in Washington in 2007 . In 2009, Constâncio Pinto, a new East Timorese ambassador to the United States , was sent.

On July 6, 2012, Camões was appointed East Timor's first ambassador based in Vietnam . He handed in his accreditation on May 8, 2013. On December 17, 2016, Camões was adopted by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc . Pascoela Barreto became the new East Timorese ambassador to Vietnam . In 2018 Camões was Director General of the Department for Relations with ASEAN in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2019.

Camões is married to Zelinda Fernandes and has one son. Jorge Trindade Neves de Camões' parents are Luis de Camões and Rosentina Neves de Camões. He is the second eldest son of twelve children.
