José Abel

José dos Reis Francisco Abel is a politician and government employee from East Timor .

Life

Abel holds a Master of Science degree in Environment and Development from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England and a Master of Science degree in Regional Economics from the School of Economics at Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia . Abel worked for ten years as an Indonesian official in the field of development aid for social and economic projects, then for 13 years for the United Nations . For the CNRT , the umbrella organization of the East Timorese resistance against the Indonesian occupation, Abel worked as an agricultural expert in preparation for the transition to an independent East Timor. In 2001 he was director of the agricultural department. Under Sukehiro Hasegawa , the UN special envoy for East Timor from 2004 to 2006, Abel was a program analyst for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In 2007 Abel was elected as a member of the Partido Unidade Nacional (PUN) in the national parliament of East Timor , but later left parliament. Later in the legislature, Abel became head of the Major Projects Secretariat in the Treasury . Here he is also the coordinator for public-private partnership projects .
