José Alberto Serrano Antón IEME (born April 14, 1942 in Saragossa , Spain ) is a Spanish missionary and bishop of Hwange , ecclesiastical province of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe .

Life

Serrano first studied philosophy at the seminary in Saragossa (1958–1962) and then as a seminarist at the “Instituto Español de Misiones Extranjeras” (IEME) Catholic theology in Burgos (1963–1964). On July 1, 1966, he was ordained a priest there and incardinated in the diocese of Saragossa .

After his ordination , he studied at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) and obtained a licentiate in dogmatics in 1967 . From 1968 to 1969 he taught dogmatics at the seminary in Burgos. In 1970 he was sent to the Zimbabwe Mission. There he was deployed in various missions until 2004: "Holy Family" in Hwange, "Our Lady of Peace" in Victoria Falls, "Sacred Heart" in Jambezi, "St. Francis Xavier ”in Dete and“ Saint Josephine Bakhita ”in Victoria Falls. From 1979 to 1983 he was the director of the magazine “Misiones Extranjeras” and other IEME publications in Madrid.

Returning to the mission, Serrano taught at the National Catechetical School and was spiritual guide to the novices of the Missionaries of Calvary in Dete and the Franciscan Missionary Sisters in Victoria Falls. Since 2004 he has been Vicar General of the Diocese of Hwange and diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Hwange, which has been vacant since the promotion of his predecessor, Robert Christopher Ndlovu, to Archbishop of Harare in June 2004.

On December 5, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the bishop of Hwange.
