José António Calado da Silva (born March 1, 1974 in Lisbon ) is a former Portuguese soccer player who last played for the Cypriot club AE Paphos .

Career

José António Calado began his career in 1991 at Casa Pia AC . Only a year later he received an offer from a larger club, CF Estrela Amadora , which he immediately accepted. There he played a total of three years until he moved to the Portuguese top club Benfica Lisbon in 1995.

In the summer of 2001 he moved with his teammate João Tomás to the Primera División at Betis Sevilla . But both were used relatively rarely. Therefore, Calado only made 20 games in the first two seasons. In the 2003/04 season he was loaned to Polideportivo Ejido . The loan period was two years. After the loan period, he was sold to Ejido. Due to an injury, he was unable to participate for most of the 2006/07 season. In four years at Polideportivo Ejido, he made a total of 100 games and scored 15 goals. In the 2007/08 season he moved to the Cypriot club APOP Kinyras Peyias , where he played for most of the season. After just one year, he moved to AE Paphos , where he finally ended his career two years later.

National team

Initially, Calado was active for Portugal's U-21s and completed a total of 14 U-21 internationals with two goals. He made his national team debut at the 1995 Skydome Cup in Canada. With her he won the only senior title in Portugal. He played a total of four games for the selection of his home country. Calado also played at the 1996 Summer Olympics for Portugal's Olympic team . In the tournament made six games, scored two goals and finished fourth with his team.
