José Carlos de Oliveira (director)

José Carlos Pereira Martins de Oliveira (born June 16, 1951 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese film director, screenwriter, film producer and cameraman.

Life

From 1970 to 1972 he studied photography at the IADE (Instituto de Artes Visuais, Design e Marketing) in Lisbon. After studying film in London , he took courses in film and television with the cartographic services of the Portuguese army , the Exército Português , within the Portuguese armed forces . From 1973 he worked as a commercial filmmaker. Up until the end of the 1980s, in this role, he mainly shot commercials, documentaries for industry and educational films.

He first switched to the feature film genre in 1992 when he was shooting TV series for television. In 1997 he directed a full-length feature film for the first time.

With Quero Ser Uma Estrela , he made his third film in Mozambique in 2010, after Preto e Branco in 2003 and Um Rio in 2005 .
