The 4th German Grand Prix 2012 (GGP) was a tournament in the three- cushion billiard discipline and was held from 14. – 15. July 2012 in Herten . After the 2nd GGP in Velbert and the 3rd GGP in Bottrop were canceled due to insufficient number of participants, the last GGP 2012 took place in Herten with only 20 players. At the 1st GGP , three months earlier in Witten , 22 participants had played for points for the ranking list and thus the qualification for the German championship.
Because of the small number of participants, the tournament was not held as planned from 13th to 15th July, but played streamlined on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July. After the group draw on Saturday morning at 9:30 am, the group games took place in round robin mode , on Sunday the final round, beginning in the round of 16 in knockout mode.
In the preliminary round, the game was played on 25 points or 25 admissions, in the final round on 25 points with no admissions limit.
Jens Eggers, overall winner of 2008, 2009 and 2011, canceled shortly before the tournament. Martin Horn from Essen , currently the best German in 10th place in the world rankings, was considered the favorite to win. Ronny Lindemann from Witten and his future teammate Markus Dömer would make this difficult for him , but Markus Galla, as the organizer's representative, did not want to be satisfied with back places.
Ronny Lindemann couldn't play a second win and was eliminated early in the quarter-finals against Dustin Jäschke. Not surprisingly, Markus Galla was able to play his way into the final against the favorite Martin Horn, but had to admit defeat to the outstanding Horn with 25:12. During the tournament, Horn played 3 times a HS of 9 and 2 times a GD of 2,500, but Markus Dömer achieved the best HS in the semifinals with 11 points, followed by Dustin Jäschke with 10.
In his speech after the award ceremony, Martin Horn dedicated his title to national coach Werner Naruhn, who died on April 10, 2012. This could also have been the last German Grand Prix, as its continuation in 2013 is in question.
For the failed GGP in Velbert and Bottrop, federal sports warden Kurt Dahlhaus rewarded the registered players with 1 point per GGP.
