José Güemes
José Güemes (born October 8, 1803 in Salta , † December 13, 1840 ibid) was an Argentine soldier and politician.
The younger brother of General Martín Miguel de Güemes joined the Northern Army as an adjutant to General Manuel Belgrano when he was a child . Juan Martín de Pueyrredón promoted him to lieutenant in 1815. He later joined his brother's troops and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1820. In 1830 he took part in José Ignacio de Gorriti's campaign against the provinces of Catamarca and La Rioja. In 1831 he settled in Tilacra in the Jujuy Province . After the dismissal of Governor Rudencio Alvarado at the end of 1831, he was governor of the province of Salta for a short time until he was deposed by Caudillo Pablo Latorre in February 1832 .
