José Gomes Ferreira

José Gomes Ferreira (born June 9, 1900 in Porto , † February 8, 1985 ) was a Portuguese writer and poet.

Life

When he was four years old, the family moved to Lisbon . He attended the secondary schools Liceu Camões and Liceu Gil Vicente in Lisbon. In the latter he met Leonardo Coimbra and had his first contact with poetry . Although Ferreira was much younger, he wrote a sonnet together with Fernando Pessoa for the magazine Ressurreição (Resurrection), of which he later became editor. After completing his military service, he joined the Batalão Academico Republicano, a volunteer association of students who wanted to defend the 1st Republic against monarchists.

His son was the architect Raúl Hestnes Ferreira (1931-2018); his grandson the actor Pedro Hestnes (1962–2011).
