José Joaquim de Sousa
The Portuguese captain José Joaquim de Sousa was governor of Timor from 1800 to 1803 .
Sousa equipped the fortress in the colonial capital Dili , which his predecessor João Baptista Verquaim (1794–1800) had built with cannons. Sousa also restructured the colonial troops.
