José Luis Murga

José Luis Murga Gener (born June 23, 1927 in Seville ; † September 28, 2005 ibid) was a Spanish legal scholar , legal historian and university lecturer. He was considered one of the most important Spanish Romanists of the 20th century.

Life

Murga studied law at the University of Seville , where he 1954 with the civil work El arrendamiento rústico en la transmisión "mortis causa" Dr. iur. PhD. From 1952 to 1960 he was a lecturer at the University of Navarra , then he taught at the University of Oviedo until 1965 . With the appointment to the University of Santiago de Compostela , Murga's first publications on Roman law appeared . In 1969 he was appointed Profesor agregado in Santiago de Compostela . In 1971 Murga was appointed to the chair of Roman law by the University of Zaragoza . He taught and researched there for a total of eleven years before moving to his alma mater in Seville in October 1982. In 1992 Murga retired there.

Works

Murga distinguished himself primarily through his publications on legal history , Roman law and its references to current Spanish private law , in particular inheritance law . After his retirement he also published non-legal works, in particular on Christian topics and Seville and its surroundings.
