José Manuel Abundis (born June 11, 1973 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ) is a retired Mexican football player on the position of striker .

Life

society

Abundis began his professional career at Deportivo Toluca FC , where he was under contract from 1992 to 2000 and later again between 2004 and 2006 for a total of ten years and with whom he won a total of four league titles. Except for the time still in the capital settled CF Atlante , where he was two years between 2000 and 2002 under contract, Abundis was longer engaged otherwise in any club than half a year.

After doping allegations against him, José Salvador Carmona Álvarez and Aarón Galindo had been confirmed in 2014 , the club publicly distanced itself from Abundis.

National team

Abundis made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on February 7, 1996 in the 1: 2 defeat against Chile. His last international match was on June 20, 2001 in the 3-1 defeat in Honduras, which seriously jeopardized the Mexicans ' qualification for the World Cup just a few days after the 2-1 home defeat by Costa Rica .

The highlight of his international career was his participation in the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup , which was held in his own country and in which the Mexican national team celebrated its greatest triumph to date. "El Tri" won the title and Abundis played an active role in all five games and contributed two goals to this triumph to lead them 2-0 in the preliminary round against Egypt (2-2) and in the final against Brazil (4-3). He also took part in the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup for Mexico .
