José Manuel Sempere Macià (born February 15, 1958 in Elche , Spain ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career

Sempere played exclusively for Valencia CF throughout his career .

In the 1980/81 season he guarded the Valencia goal for the first time at the age of 22 under coach Alfredo Di Stéfano and had a total of 31 league games by the end of the season. He won the UEFA Super Cup in his first year as a professional . From then on, Sempere was an indispensable part of the Valencia team and gained first European Cup experience with appearances in the European Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup .

In the 1985/86 season Sempere rose with the highly indebted club. Even so, the Spaniard refused a move and instead tackled immediate re-promotion. Although this succeeded, Sempere had to share the regular place in goal from now on with Antonio García Pérez and ultimately give it up completely with the commitment of José Manuel Ochotorena in the 1988/89 season . In this way, he came in the following three years only to ten missions in the Primera División .

In the 1991/92 season Sempere finally fought back his regular place and played with the club again in the UEFA Cup. When the club's management signed goalkeeper legend Andoni Zubizarreta in 1994 , Sempere had to sit on the bench again. He then ended his career in 1995 at the age of 37.

Sempere came to a total of 270 appearances in the Primera División .
