José María Bustamante
Fernando José María Bustamante (born March 19, 1777 in Toluca de Lerdo , † December 4, 1861 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican composer.
Bustamante worked as Kapellmeister at various churches in Mexico City, most recently at the cathedral. He was active in the Mexican independence movement and taught at the first conservatory in Latin America, which was founded in Mexico in 1824.
His heroic melodrama Méjico libre ( Free Mexico ) became famous . He also composed an opera and church music.
