Georg Dientzenhofer
Georg Dientzenhofer (* 1643 in Oberulpoint ( Feilnbach ); baptized August 11, 1643 in Au bei Aibling , Electorate of Bavaria ; † February 2, 1689 in Waldsassen ) was an important German builder of the South German and Bohemian Baroque from the Dientzenhofer family .
Origin and career
Georg, the eldest son of Georg Dientzenhofer and Barbara, born. Thanner, presumably left by the mason his Upper Bavarian homeland and went on the roller to Prague , where in the building huts of Abraham Leuthner , Carlo Lurago abundant labor was available and other builders.
On February 13, 1677, he was recorded for the first time as "Georg Pinzenhover" on the Lesser Town in Prague as a witness at a baptism in St. Thomas Church. In order to acquire citizenship of the Lesser Town, he received a birth and omission letter from the Aibling nursing court in 1679 . His brothers Wolfgang , Christoph , Leonhard and Johann , who all learned the mason trade, are also recorded in Prague in 1678, when they were present as witnesses at the wedding of their sister Anna with Wolfgang Leuthner - a relative of the builder Abraham Leuthner - that year .
In 1682 Georg moved with the Abraham Leuthners construction company as foreman and responsible construction manager to Waldsassen in Upper Palatinate , where a new monastery complex and the collegiate basilica were to be built and his brothers Leonhard and Christoph were also employed at times.
With the consent and support of the Waldsassen abbot, he was able to work on other buildings at the same time:
- In the vicinity of Waldsassen he built the famous pilgrimage church Kappl for the Jesuits according to his own plans and under his own direction , which became his masterpiece.
- Amberg : Plans for the Jesuit College , which was completed by Wolfgang Dientzenhofer.
- Bamberg : Plans for the Martinskirche that Leonhard Dientzenhofer carried out.
- Trautmannshofen : The pilgrimage church of Mariä Namen was built according to plans by Leonhard Dientzenhofer under the direction of Georg Dientzenhofer and completed after his death by Wolfgang Dientzenhofer .

On August 25, 1682 Georg Dientzenhofer married the butcher's daughter Maria Elisabeth Hager from Waldsassen and acquired in 1683 the citizenship of Amberg , the then capital of kurbairischen Upper Palatinate was. Between 1683 and 1688 three daughters and a son were born.
Due to his early death, Georg Dientzenhofer was no longer able to see the completion of his buildings. At the age of only 46 he died in Waldsassen as a court architect and master builder.
