José María Estrada

José María Estrada (* 1802 in Granada , Nicaragua , † August 13, 1856 in Somotillo , Nicaragua) was the constitutional president of Nicaragua from April 10, 1855 until his death. However, it was under the control of the Partido Legitimista and lost real power on October 23, 1855.

Life

President Fruto Chamorro Pérez elected José María Estrada as his deputy. Estrada also presided over the Constituent Assembly of 1854; after President Chamorro Pérez died in office on March 12, 1855, this congregation appointed Estrada as his successor until the end of the presidential term.

Threatened with murder, Estrada agreed to a “peace treaty” signed by the Partido Legitimista Commander-in-Chief , Ponciano Corral Acosta, and William Walker . With this "peace treaty" the two Patricio Rivas appointed President of Nicaragua. José María Estrada fled on October 23, 1855. On October 30, 1855, Rivas took up his post as Walker's puppet . José María Estrada published a statement while on the run in Masaya , in which he referred to Walker as Filibustero . José María Estrada saw himself as the still legitimate president and called on the Central American governments to expel Walker by force of arms. José María Estrada was murdered by soldiers of the Partido Democrático in Somotillo. His successor was Nicasio del Castillo y Guzmán .
