José María Forqué
José María Forqué (born March 8, 1923 in Saragossa , † March 17, 1995 in Madrid ) was a Spanish film director .
Forqué, who originally studied architecture, made his first film in 1951. His Day of the Damned was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival . Forqué founded its own production company, Orfeo Films , in 1967 . Most of the fifty or so films he directed were comedies and, towards the end of his career, also adult films.
A prize named after him has been awarded since 1996.
