José Pierre (* 1927 in Bénesse-Maremne , Landes ; † April 7, 1999 in Paris ) was a French art historian and narrator who was one of the members of the group of surrealists around André Breton after the Second World War .

life and work

Pierre meticulously collected material from the history of the surrealist group to create an archive of the unknown history of the surrealism movement. Among other things, he published the minutes of the Surrealists' conversations on sexuality from his collection, which were also published in German in 1993. “The surrealists from the inner circle around Andre Breton also sat together one day to discuss sexual experiences. But what they had in mind was anything but a warm, damp potency fraternization. They organized a "jeu de la vérité", a series of questions and answers of such unprotected and provocative openness that is unprecedented even for the 20th century, which is overcrowded with rude sexual palaver. And because the game of revelation did not serve the slippery delight, but a crude finding of truth, they had their statements recorded for publication. "

José Pierre also worked in the German-speaking area during his lifetime. He was friends with the Austrian philosopher Volker Zotz , for whose biography on André Breton he provided a foreword to the French edition.
