José Sangenís

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

José Sangenís (* in Marçà , Tarragona Province ) is a former Spanish football player in the position of goalkeeper . For years he was under contract with Real Club España , who played in the Mexican league, and is considered the teacher of the future Mexican goalkeeper legend Antonio Carbajal , who began his professional career in 1948 as a substitute goalkeeper behind Sangenís at España.

Life

Born in a small village in the southernmost Catalan province of Tarragona, Sangenís settled in the capital Barcelona early on to begin a career as a football player. The outbreak of the Spanish Civil War initially destroyed this plan. After the end of the civil war, Sangenís emigrated to Mexico and joined the Club Atlante , where he only stayed one year.

He then moved to city rivals Real Club España, with whom he won the 15th championship title in the history of the Españistas in the 1944/45 season. Even before the start of the season, he was in goal at the Supercup final, which was won against the “Spanish” arch-rivals and last year's champions Asturias .

During the trips to Mexico by the top Argentinian clubs Racing Club in February 1947 and Independiente in January 1948, Sangenís guarded the goal of the team made up of players from the two “Spanish” clubs in Mexico (España and Asturias).
