José Suárez (actor)

José Suárez Sanchez (born September 19, 1919 in Trubia , † August 6, 1981 in Madrid ) was a Spanish actor .

Life

Suarez was working as a train driver in 1944 when he was discovered by director Gonzalo Delgrás and cast in his film "Altar Mayor". After two more films with him, Suarez got leading roles under other directors. In the 1950s, he became one of the most popular actors among female moviegoers. Suarez headed the Spanish actors' guild and in the mid-1950s he also turned to the international market and lived in Rome. About a decade later he returned to his homeland and, due to his distinguished appearance, was given roles as judge, politician or officer in genre films. In 1975 Suarez made his last film.

Suarez received the CEC for Crimen Imposible in 1954 and was named Best Actor at the San Sebastián Festival in 1964.
