José Zepeda

José Zepeda (* 1784 in León (Nicaragua) ; † January 25, 1837 ibid) was Supremo Director of the Province of Nicaragua .

Life

Colonel Zepeda did essential services in the War of Independence under José Francisco Morazán Quezada . He took part in the battles of La Trinidad (Nicaragua) , Belén Gualcho , Olancho and San Pedro Perulapán.

In José Núñez 'tenure from March 10, 1834 to April 23, 1835, he was Deputy Supremo Director . On February 21, 1835, Parliament declared him elected Supremo Director . He took office on April 23, 1835 and José Núñez became his deputy. During his tenure, the state finances were regulated, the universities of León and Granada (Nicaragua) reformed, public roads expanded, a penal code passed, the Supreme Court reformed, an audit office established and Rivas upgraded to a city.

In León in April 1833 the La Opinion Publica and in August 1835 the Telegrafo Nicaraguense were the first newspapers in Nicaragua to be published with a certain regularity. The editor of Telegrafo Nicaraguense was Hermenegildo Zepeda Fernández.

His government allowed Manuel Quijano y García and other Costa Rican exiles to Nicaragua to prepare an invasion of Costa Rica in 1836 , which was suppressed by the authorities in Liberia Guanacaste .

Zepeda and Coronel Román Balladares were murdered in a riot on January 25, 1837.

Núñez then became supremo director again and had the head of the bodyguard, Braulio Mendiola, fusilized for killing José Zepeda.

Zepeda and Román Balladares are on the Cementerio de Guadalupe in León.
