List of heads of state of the Nicaragua Province
Even if today's Nicaragua was already an administrative unit at the time of Central America's independence from Spain in 1821 as Intendencia de León , in the first years of independence competing government juntas ruled in León and Granada and from July and August 1824 also in Managua and El Viejo . It was only under pressure from the Central American Confederation , which installed the first two heads of state, that a central provincial government was set up. In the period that followed, however, there were more “counter-governments”.
By resolution of April 30, 1838, Nicaragua declared its exit from the Central American Confederation and thus became an independent state. This was formally manifested with the adoption of the new constitution on May 2, 1838.
