The Josef Wiedermann-Hof is a council in the 19th Vienna district Döbling ( cadastral Oberdöbling ). It was built between 1966 and 1968 according to plans by the architect Josef Horacek and comprises 64 apartments.

Building

Social building with attached parts of the community building

The Josef-Wiedermann-Hof was built at the same time as the social building on the corner of Billrothstraße and Gatterburggasse, with the corner building including a party venue for the Social Democratic Party of Austria . The Josef-Wiedermann-Hof was added to the corner building, with one of the six staircases in Gatterburggasse and, in addition to a kindergarten, a “House of Encounters” with a ballroom. The remaining five staircases form a broad front of houses at Billrothstrasse 32. The elongated part of the building houses business premises, a location for the Vienna libraries and a branch of the municipal department 48 .

The Josef-Wiedermann-Hof on Billrothstrasse is made up of five four-storey, coupled residential buildings, some of the top floors of which have been converted into apartments. The facade is structured by the stairwells raised by one storey, the alternating sizes of the windows and painting in different shades of gray appear as additional stylistic elements. Together with the social building and the part of the building in Gatterburggasse, the front on Billrothstrasse encloses a spacious garden courtyard.

The Josef-Wiedermann-Hof was artistically furnished by Hans Robert Pippal , who made mosaics for the balustrade of the ballroom and for the facade of the kindergarten. In addition, there is a memorial plaque on the facade of Billrothstraße, which reminds of the naming of the municipal building after the state parliament member and councilor Josef Wiedermann in 1985 .
