Josef Žáček (* 1951 in Prague ) is a Czech painter .

Life

Žáček studied from 1977 to 1983 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. In 1989 his first major exhibition took place in the Youth Gallery in Prague . Paintings on the subject of the Gospel of Matthew were shown.

In his work, Žáček often reflects on radical tendencies such as those shown in the struggle against power structures and totalitarian practices, although he clearly distances himself from these - he tries to let the circumstances of such actions affect him and accepts them without sympathy.

In 1993 he created portraits of some members of the fourth generation of the Red Army faction . The occasion was the GSG-9 mission in Bad Kleinen against members of the Red Army faction who were on the wanted list at the time. Žáček showed this series called “Searching in Lost Space” in 1994 at the Behemot Gallery in Prague.

In 2011, the No Comment series was exhibited at the Dox Center for Contemporary Art in Prague . Among other things, a group portrait of the partisans of Primorye could be seen. They were portraits of a small group of Russian teenagers from the Primorye region , who were brutally liquidated.
