The 30th Söngvakeppnin 2020 took place on February 29th 2020 in Laugardalshöllin in Reykjavík and was the Icelandic preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ). As always, the broadcasting television station was Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). Daði Freyr and Gagnamagnið won with their song Think About Things .

format

concept

On September 13, 2019, the public service broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.

As in the previous year, ten participants will take part in the competition in 2020. They will be divided into two semi-finals, with five performers each. The interpreters then have to present their song in Icelandic . Of the five participants, two each qualify for the final, with the result of the semifinals being determined 50% by jury voting and 50% by televoting. RÚV also retains the right to award a wildcard for the final. So there will be between four and five participants in the final. There, the interpreters will have free choice of language and there will then be two voting rounds. In the first round, 50% by televoting and 50% by an international jury of ten, two songs are determined for the super final. In the second round, the audience then determined the placements, although the votes from the televoting from the first round are included in the final result. There it will then be decided who will represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.

British choreographer Lee Proud will be in charge of artistic direction and choreography for the preliminary round. Kristjana Stefánsdóttir will be responsible for the musical direction.

Choice of contribution

From September 13 to October 17, 2019, 11:59 p.m., composers had the opportunity to submit a contribution to the Icelandic television station RÚV. A total of 157 songs were submitted, 25 more than last year . A seven-member jury consisting of representatives from RÚV, the Association of Icelandic Musicians and the Association of Icelandic Composers and Lyricists will select ten entries from the submitted entries.

Attendees

The ten performers and their songs were presented on January 18, 2020 in the form of a special broadcast.
