The 27th Söngvakeppnin 2017 took place on March 11th 2017 and was the Icelandic preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev .

format

The show consists of three programs: two semi-finals and a final. Six participants compete against each other with their songs in the semi-finals. These must all be presented in Icelandic . Three of them each qualify for the final, which is decided solely by the televoting. In addition, a wildcard will be selected after the two semi-finals. This is determined internally by the television station and comes from one of the two semi-finals. In the final, the six qualifiers from the two semi-finals will then compete against each other. There the interpreters can decide for themselves whether they sing in Icelandic or English. Which two of the finalists make it to the golden final is decided 50% by televoting and 50% by a jury. In the golden final , two participants then compete against each other. As in the semi-finals, the result will be 100% decided by the televoting. The one who receives the most votes wins the preliminary round and represents Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev.

Attendees

Interested parties could submit their songs between September 20, 2016 and October 28, 2016. The songs could not be longer than three minutes. In addition, there had to be an Icelandic and an English text. Ultimately, the 12 participating songs were presented on January 20, 2017. The Icelandic and the English version were published.

First semi-final

The first semi-final took place on February 25, 2017 in Háskólabíó, Reykjavík. There six participants competed against each other. The three participants with the most votes from televoting qualified for the final.

The winner of the Icelandic preliminary decision: Svala Björgvinsdóttir

The final took place on March 11, 2017 in Laugardalshöllin , Reykjavík. Seven performers from the respective semifinals competed against each other there. Six qualifiers from the respective semi-finals and the wildcard from one of the two semi-finals competed against each other. During the voting phase, Måns Zelmerlöw stepped up. He sang the songs Heroes and Glorious .
