The 24th Söngvakeppnin was the Icelandic preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen ( Denmark ). It took place on February 15, 2014.
The winner of the competition was the band Pollapönk with their song No Prejudice , which they sang in English and Icelandic in the superfinals. At the song contest themselves, however, they sang it entirely in English.
format
concept
In contrast to the previous year , in 2014 only ten instead of twelve participants took part in the program. Nevertheless, there were again two semi-finals. Five participants took part in each semi-final, with two of them qualifying for the final. However, RÚV retained the right to award a wildcard for the final. Accordingly, six participants took part in the final, of which the two best reached the superfinals. There, unlike in the semi-finals and the final, only the televoting determined the winner. In all other parts of the broadcast, 50% of the results are decided by a jury and 50% by televoting.
There was also the rule that the songs in the semifinals had to be performed in Icelandic . In the final, the performers can decide for themselves whether they want to present their song in Icelandic or English .
Choice of contribution
From September 3, 2013 to October 7, 2013, contributions could be submitted to RÚV. They also announced that the eventual winner would receive a total of one million Icelandic kronor .
On October 18, 2013, RÚV announced that they had received a total of 297 songs, which is 25% more than the previous year.
The ten participants were announced on December 18, 2013.
