Josef Rüf

Josef Andreas Rüf (born January 10, 1882 in Dornbirn ; † January 4, 1934 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CS ) in the state of Vorarlberg . Rüf was regional councilor in the Vorarlberg state government from 1928 to 1932 , member of the state parliament from 1928 to 1934 and mayor of the city of Dornbirn from 1926 to 1934.

Josef Rüf was born on January 10, 1882 as the son of the nail smith Martin Rüf and his wife Elisabetha in Dornbirn. There he grew up and attended elementary school. From 1896 to 1899, the young Josef Rüf worked as a sink tub in a FM Hämmerle factory before entering the teachers' seminar in Feldkirch in 1899 . In Bolzano he attended the 4th course at the teacher training institute and passed the school leaving examination in 1903. From 1904 Rüf taught as a teacher at the elementary school Dornbirn Oberdorf . On November 11, 1907, Josef Rüf married Maria Marxgut in Dornbirn, with whom he later had three children in 1908, 1910 and 1913. In 1914, Rüf's teaching career was interrupted by a year-long war mission, then from 1915 he worked as the head of the municipal food supply in the Dornbirn Approval Office. From 1920 to 1929 he was head of the Vorarlberg publishing house as its first chairman.

Josef Rüf was elected as a member of the Dornbirn City Council for the first time in 1919, which he remained until his election as mayor. In 1926 he succeeded the late Engelbert Luger as Mayor of Dornbirn. From April 2, 1928, he was also a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament as a member of the Feldkirch electoral district for the Christian Social Party . On the same day he also became a member of the Vorarlberg state government as a regional councilor, which he remained until November 21, 1932.
