Josef Arens

Josef Arens (* 1895 ; † March 11, 1954 in Hürth ) was an economist and mayor of Rösrath CDU . In the post-war period he shaped politics in Hürth, one of the largest municipalities in Germany , as the municipal director .

Life

Arens studied business administration and graduated with a degree in business administration . He then worked as a banker, stockbroker and trustee. At the end of the Weimar Republic he was a member of the advisory staff of Chancellor Heinrich Brüning . His first political home was the center , which he joined in 1921. After the Second World War he was one of the founders of the CDU in the Rhineland and in 1945 became the local chairman in Rösrath. He was elected mayor there in 1946. In 1947, the Hürth local council elected him full-time local director to succeed Albert Lüttgenau . Together with mayors Karl Pimpertz (CDU) and Jakob Esser (SPD), he shaped the reconstruction of the community, which was badly damaged by the war. His focal points included the procurement of food, overcoming the housing shortage, the development of local public transport and energy supply. After a long illness, he was given early retirement in 1953. He died the following year. Otto Räcke was elected as his successor .
