Josef Berchtold (born February 25, 1953 in Augsburg ) is a German lawyer.

Career

Berchtold completed a law degree at the University of Augsburg from 1972 to 1979 as part of the one-stage legal training . After a brief activity in the supply administration, Berchtold, who received his doctorate in 1987 at the University of Trier and whose dissertation deals with the international relations of the German health insurance, was a judge at the Augsburg Social Court from 1980 to 1992 . In 1993 he was appointed judge at the Bavarian State Social Court . After he was finally appointed judge at the Federal Social Court on July 28, 1995 , he initially worked there in the Fourth Senate and thus dealt with legal issues relating to statutory pension insurance. At the same time, from January 1997 to October 2004, he was also the judge's secretary for administrative tasks. From March 2009 until the end of the year he was Deputy Chair of the Twelfth Senate. In the same function, he worked in the Fifth Senate from January 2010. This was followed on December 14, 2009 by the handover of the certificate of appointment by BSG President Peter Masuch as presiding judge at the Federal Social Court. Berchtold has been pursuing this task in the Fifth Senate since July 1, 2010.
