Peter Masuch

Peter Masuch (born April 10, 1951 in Westerstede ) is a German lawyer . From January 1, 2008 to September 30, 2016, he was President of the Federal Social Court .

Life

After high school and military service, Masuch began studying law at the University of Bremen in 1972 , which he completed in 1978. From 1979 to 1980 he was a research assistant at the Federal Social Court. In 1980 Masuch was appointed judge at the Bremen Social Court, and in 1990 he moved to the Bremen Regional Social Court as a judge . After a renewed activity as a research assistant at the Federal Social Court in 1985/1986 and also as a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court from 1993 to 1995, Masuch was appointed judge at the Federal Social Court in Kassel on May 2, 1996 and was chairman of the judges' council there several times from 1998 . There he was initially active in the 8th and 10th Senate (responsible for miners' insurance , bankruptcy loss benefits and child benefit law, among other things ), and from 2001 in the 9th and 10th Senate (among other things, social compensation law , severely handicapped law ). Most recently, from July 1, 2007, he was deputy chairman of the 7th and 8th Senate, responsible for the areas of employment promotion , social assistance and asylum seeker benefit law. On December 18, 2007, Masuch was appointed President of the Federal Social Court by Federal Minister Olaf Scholz and has since been responsible for health insurance benefits law in the 1st Senate . He took over the presidency from Matthias von Wulffen , whose term of office ended for reasons of age.

Masuch has worked for many years on the joint commentary on SGB II and is co-editor and co-commentator of a commentary on SGB ​​IX .

Masucci has his 18 years a member of the SPD and longtime member of the public workers' union or from ver.di . He has been working for Lebenshilfe for people with intellectual disabilities since 1987 , and has been a member of its federal board since 2004. Masuch received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bremen in 2016 . He is married and has two children.
