The Alfter-Witterschlick Station is a station of Voreifelbahn in the district Witterschlick the municipality Alfter in North Rhine-Westphalia Rhein-Sieg-Kreis . Until December 13, 2014 it was called Witterschlick .

In the station area there is a longitudinal incline of about 12 ‰ of the tracks. Therefore, a stop at this point was not initially planned, as the steam trains could only start again with difficulty on this incline.

history

The system with two platforms was built due to the personal efforts of Witterschlicker school director Esser. Today the station is owned by a dispatcher who used to work there and is used as a residential building.

During rush hour, the S-Bahn line S 23 runs between Bonn and Rheinbach every quarter of an hour, otherwise between Bonn and Euskirchen every half hour or hour: every hour from Euskirchen to Bad Münstereifel as RB 23.

In 1950 there was a landslide , as a result of which a retaining wall was damaged and protruded into the tracks. As a result, track 1 was no longer passable. Since then, the dilapidated retaining wall has been bypassed in an arc. It is not planned to renew the retaining wall and thus optimize the route or to expand it on two tracks. The reason given for this is that the costs are too high. The slope is currently in a stable condition.

In 2001 the buildings were placed under monument protection.

In 2002 the platforms were completely rebuilt. The island platform was removed and two new outer platforms were built in modular design. The renovation was completed in early September 2002. In addition, the sidings leading to the clay shed, which had been closed for a long time, were removed.

In 2011 the mechanical interlocking and the form signals were taken out of service and an electronic interlocking was put into operation. The associated modular building is at the end of the P&R area. The control takes place from Euskirchen. The two existing level crossings Servaisstrasse and Duisdorfer Strasse were retrofitted and switched from full closure to half barriers.

In 2014, turnout 20 in the direction of Euskirchen was moved 21 meters in the direction of Kottenforst, so that the signals and the stopping point could also be moved 12 meters in the direction of Kottenforst. This was necessary in order to ensure a useful platform length of 165 meters, whereby the switch-off loop of the Servaisstraße level crossing should also be driven free by long trains.

use

Old signal box, now a museum

The outbuildings of the station were renovated and rededicated. The historic goods hall functions temporarily as a venue for smaller theater performances; but also as a branch office of the registry office of the city of Alfter. The possibility of getting married in a train station with ongoing rail operations is likely to be unique in Germany.

A museum was opened in the old signal box in 2013.
