Josef Burgmeier

Josef Burgmeier (born April 4, 1844 in Grenchen , † September 29, 1905 in Aarau ) was a singer and musician from the canton of Aargau .

Life

Josef Burgmeier is the son of a carpenter who immigrated from southern Germany. As an autodidact, he taught himself how to master several musical instruments. At that time he was already a popular folk musician in his closer home.

Career

In 1867 he was hired as a singing teacher at the district school and the Aargau Cantonal School in Aarau, but without having completed his training. From 1869 Josef Burgmeier took over the position of director of the town music, the organist service at the Reformed town church and in 1873 the position of singing teacher at the Aargau Teachers' Seminar (today New Cantonal School Aarau ). He was famous for his extraordinarily powerful and stirring voice. He was one of the first to have his voice recorded on records.

His oldest daughter was Lisa Burgmeier .
