Josef Erhard (Ministerial Director)

Josef Erhard (* 1946 ) is a German civil servant . From 1999 to 2011 he was Ministerial Director in the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture .

Life

After graduating from the Domgymnasium in Freising in 1965 , Erhard studied German and Latin for high school teaching. He then worked for nine years as a teacher at the Markt Schwaben grammar school .

In 1984 he was appointed advisor for cultural affairs at the Bavarian State Chancellery . Three years later, the Bavarian Minister of Education, Hans Zehetmair , brought him to his ministry as a personal advisor. In 1994 Erhard was promoted to ministerial director and took over the management of the department of art, art colleges and cultural affairs. From 1999 he was Ministerial Director at the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture until he retired in July 2011.

In December 2010, Erhard signed the framework agreement for the use of copyrighted works in schools as a representative of the Standing Conference. The use of the so-called “school Trojan” software to scan the school server for illegal programs by school book publishers is particularly spicy.

Awards

In 2006 Erhard was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit for his services . In 2012 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. honored with the commander's cross of the papal order of knights of St. Gregory the great .
