Josef Fürst (innkeeper)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Fürst (born March 16, 1863 in Schliersee , † January 12, 1940 in Murnau am Staffelsee ) was a German printer, newspaper publisher and innkeeper.

Life

At the Miesbacher Anzeiger he completed an apprenticeship as a book printer and was already actively involved in club life in the Miesbach area and was involved in the founding of clubs. Around 1886 he moved to Murnau with a stopover in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There he became a council member, founded the Staffelsee-Bote , which was later called Murnauer Tagblatt and which he passed on to his son when he was old. He also took part in the community's club life a lot there. He was the initiator of the old gymnasium in Murnau, in which he then took part in theater performances. In addition, he was the initiator of the market town's lido construction. He and his wife Barbara had four daughters (Barbara, Agnes, Josefine [called "Finni"], Aloisia [called "Luise"]) and three sons. The older two sons Josef and Karl died in the First World War .

In his old age, from 1920 to 1928, he had the large Kaser built on the Dünaberg in Murnau , later the small Kaser and, as the last part, an additional guest house. The dining room was in the large barracks. On old postcards, the small Kaser is sometimes referred to as the “Almhütte” and the guest house as the “Landhaus”. This ensemble of three buildings was called the Fürst-Alm and was at least partially designed by Emanuel von Seidl . The Fürst-Alm was a popular eatery for a long time and had a quaint, original interior, including painting the walls. The writer Ödön von Horváth often visited the Fürst-Alm during his time in Murnau and immortalized this and Josef Fürst in a short text. Horváth is also aware of written mentions of the Fürst-Alm from his personal correspondence.
