Josef Felten

Josef Felten (* 1799 in Cologne ; † April 20, 1880 ibid.) Was a German architect .

life and work

After attending school and training in Cologne, Josef Felten studied at the Berlin Bauakademie . Until 1831 he worked as a private master builder and construction clerk in Berlin. During this time, from 1827 to 1829, he was in charge of the reconstruction of Palais Karl on Wilhelmplatz based on designs by Karl Friedrich Schinkel . Then he went back to his hometown Cologne to work there as a private master builder. The Richartz house was built in 1837 , the Hotel Disch from 1846–1848 , the reconstruction of the St. Maria im Hospital chapel in 1849, the Wallraf-Richartz Museum designed jointly with Julius Raschdorff from 1855–1861 and the renovation of the clubhouse in 1869/70 Concordia. Other buildings were the French consulate, the conservatory , the reconstruction of historical buildings as well as villas and country houses, including the house in Glockengasse 3, built in 1870 with Wilhelm Hoffmann for Albert Freiherr von Oppenheim.
