Josef František Hunke

Josef František Hunke (also Josif Karlowitsch Gunke; born February 9, 1802 in Josefstadt , † December 5, 1883 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Bohemian composer.

Hunke studied in Vienna and was violinist and organist at the Imperial Theater in St. Petersburg from 1834 to 1864. Afterwards he was teacher of the court singers society and from 1872 librarian of the conservatory.

He composed a mass , a requiem , an oratorio ( The Flood ), chamber music works and songs .
