Josef Georg Németh

Josef Georg Németh (born April 20, 1831 in Szegedin , Hungary ; † November 12, 1916 in Timișoara , Romania ) was auxiliary bishop in Hungary from 1874 to 1916 .

After graduating from high school, he studied theology and philosophy and was ordained a priest on August 24, 1854 . While still a student, he fought on the side of the Hungarian Revolution from 1848–49. After a chaplaincy and his work in pastoral care, he was called to the cathedral chapter in 1871 and appointed vicar general. On January 16, 1874, he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Chad and titular bishop of Isaura . On March 13, 1879, he also became auxiliary bishop in Skopje . From August 10, 1905 to May 10, 1908 he accepted the office of Apostolic Administrator in Chad. The city of Timișoara (Timisoara) made him an honorary citizen in 1908. He received the honorary title of Papal Assistant to the Throne combined with the title of "Count of Rome" in 1910 from Pope Pius X , who also appointed him Papal Prelate . He found his final resting place in the crypt of the cathedral at Timișoara .
