Josef Hahn (painter)

Josef Hahn (born December 15, 1839 in Munich ; † May 22, 1906 there ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Hahn graduated from high school in Scheyern , studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Julius Taeter (drawing) and Adolf Stademann (landscape painting). Later he worked for decades as a teacher at the arts and crafts advanced training school.

Artistic creation

Hahn created mostly atmospheric landscapes. His paintings provide an example of the influence of the French Barbizon School on German painting in the second half of the 19th century. His favorite motifs include the landscapes of Upper Bavaria and the Berlin Havel landscape. Hahn exhibited since 1871 in the Munich Glass Palace , at the Berlin Academy Exhibition, at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition and in Dresden. His estate was auctioned at Hugo Helbing in Munich in 1906 .
