Josef Hawle (born February 28, 1948 in Munich ) is a German artist , painter and graphic artist with numerous exhibitions at home and abroad and over 100 landscape paintings from the Cologne area. He is one of the most prominent representatives of contemporary naive painting in Germany.

biography

Josef Hawle's father came from Lundenburg , the mother from Voitelsbrunn . His parents fled the Sudetenland to Germany in 1945 without any property . In 1946 the older son Gerhard is born. Josef Hawle was born in Munich in 1948. In 1951 the Hawle family settled in Troisdorf in North Rhine-Westphalia .

In 1968 Hawle began studying graphic design at the Cologne factory schools and graduated as a graduate graphic designer at the University of Applied Sciences for Art and Design in Cologne. He then attended master classes in the graphic arts industry and in 1972 received his master craftsman apprenticeship as master typesetter from the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry . He then worked as a freelance graphic designer in various advertising agencies until 1973. Among other things, he designs and designs sets for theater and music groups.

In 1973 he got a permanent position as a graphic designer and worked for industry and agencies in the fields of design, display and illustration. In 1986 he designed the famous cover for the musician Herbert Grönemeyer for the EMI label for the successful album "ö" .

Hawle has also been creating works in the surrealist style since 1976. In 1977 he started painting in the Naive Painting . The first motifs emerge from the environment and from various dream images. In 1979 he had his first public exhibition in Troisdorf. This was followed by numerous works and other exhibitions at home and abroad.

In addition to painting exhibitions and works as an artist of wooden sculptures, there are also regular works for the public sector. Numerous facade paintings for buildings and public institutions in the cities of Troisdorf, Siegburg and other cities in the Rhein-Sieg district were created.

Hawle also designs numerous artistic motifs for books, Unicef ​​cards (including a picture of the Troisdorf Wissem Castle in 1983 for the Unicef ​​postcard series), SOS Children's Village cards, jewelry boxes, calendars, landscape and city maps Posters, series of postcards, Christmas cards, coins, mugs or CDs.
