Josef Hovenjürgen (born January 10, 1963 in Haltern , today: Haltern am See) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been a non-stop member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2002 and chairman of the association assembly of the Ruhr Regional Association since September 2014. Josef Hovenjürgen was elected Secretary General on June 9, 2018 at the 41st state party conference of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia with 95.5 percent.

Life

Hovenjürgen graduated from secondary school in 1978 and then completed an apprenticeship as a farmer, which he completed in 1981. In 1978 he also took over the family business after his father passed away. In 1990 he took the health overseer exam. From 1987 until 1999 he was employed by the Recklinghausen district administration.

politics

Hovenjürgen has been a member of the CDU since 1983. He worked in various functions at the Junge Union and the CDU at the local, city and district level. Since November 2005 he has been chairman of the Recklinghausen district association. In addition, from 2002 to 2006 he was deputy chairman of the Ruhr district association. Hovenjürgen moved up for the first time on August 5, 1999 for the MP Karin Hussing in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the state elections in 2000, however, he was unable to prevail and left parliament. After the resignation of the member of parliament Laurenz Meyer, Hovenjürgen moved again to parliament on November 1, 2002 and was able to win the direct mandate in the Recklinghausen IV constituency in the subsequent state election in 2005 . In the state election in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 , Hovenjürgen lost his direct mandate, but nevertheless moved back into the state parliament via the reserve list.

In the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2009, Hovenjürgen ran unsuccessfully as district administrator for the Recklinghausen district. He was subject to the new District Administrator Cay Süberkrüb (SPD).

From July 2010 to July 2017 he was deputy chairman and from October 2015 to July 2017 energy policy spokesman of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia . In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , Josef Hovenjürgen took back the direct mandate for the CDU in state electoral district 72 / Recklinghausen IV with 41.2 percent. He sits on the Mining Safety Subcommittee.

Until June 2017, Hovenjürgen was a full member of the Committee for Economy, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts, the Climate Protection Plan Subcommittee, the Mining Safety Subcommittee, the Construction, Housing, Urban Development and Transport Committee, the Council of Elders of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament and he was a full member of the standing committee under Article 40 of the state constitution. He was a deputy member in the committee for climate protection, environment, nature conservation, agriculture and consumer protection, in the committee for work, health and social affairs and a deputy member in the study commission - Shaping the future of craft and medium-sized businesses in North Rhine-Westphalia . Josef Hovenjürgen was chairman of the CDU district association Recklinghausen from 2005 to November 9, 2018. Due to his duties as Secretary General of the CDU-NRW, he gave up his position as district chairman.

Hovenjürgen is a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia , a member of the state board of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia , member of the district board of the CDU Ruhr, member of the CDU parliamentary group board of the Recklinghausen district . Since September 2014 he has been chairman of the association assembly of the Ruhr Regional Association . Josef Hovenjürgen MdL has been a member of the Westfalen-Initiative eV since June 23, 2015. Since October 26, 2015, he has been on the advisory board of the Nature and Environmental Protection Academy in North Rhine-Westphalia. In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , Josef Hovenjürgen was re-elected as a direct candidate for the CDU in state electoral district 72 in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. He was elected Secretary General on June 9, 2018 at the 41st state party conference of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia with 95.5 percent.

Private

Hovenjürgen is married and has four grown children. He lives in Haltern.
