from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Lang (born July 15, 1920 in Talheim ; † May 7, 2007 in Neuburg an der Donau ) was a German Catholic priest and missionary.

Life

Lang joined the Comboni missionaries' Josefinum in Ellwangen when he was eleven . There, before the Second World War, he did his Abitur with the final year of the class. Then he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service and the Wehrmacht. After the war he studied philosophy and theology and was ordained a priest in 1951. From 1951 to 1959 he was an educator in the Xaverianum seminar in Bressanone, founded in 1946, and expanded the seminar to include a building complex for a further 108 students.

In 1959 he was sent to Peru as a missionary. There he set up a seminar for the Comboni missionaries in Tarma, which was inaugurated in 1963 by Bishop Anton Kühner . To finance the seminar, Lang founded a pension in Lima. His religious community did not support this and Lang left the congregation. He became a priest of the Tarma diocese in Peru. In 1972 he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his commitment to poor children and young people.

He spent his last seven years in Germany. He died on May 7, 2007 in the retirement home of the St. Elisabeth monastery in Neuburg an der Donau and was buried in the St. Wolfgang cemetery in the same place.

He was the brother of the plastering master Alois Lang, who also received the Federal Cross of Merit.
