Josef Ley

Josef Ley (born May 2, 1918 in Überherrn ; † December 27, 1996 there ) was a German politician of the FDP .

education and profession

Ley attended primary school in Überherrn and then trained as a baker. In 1939 he was appointed to the Reich Labor Service. He took part in World War II , was wounded in the process and then worked as a prisoner of war in the mining industry. After an accident in 1954, he retrained as a commercial clerk. In 1969 he rose to the position of purchaser and deputy operations manager as well as manager of the vehicle fleet of the Ford works in Saarlouis .

Political career

In 1956 Ley was elected chairman of the local branch of the FDP in Überherrn, a position he also held at the local branch of the FDP in Saarlouis . Also in 1956 he was elected to the municipal council of Überherrn and the council of the office of Bisten , he was a member of both bodies for several years. On May 30, 1960, he was elected honorary mayor of the municipality of Überherrn, which he held until November 1968. From 1961 to 1964 he was also the second alderman of Überherrn. From 1968 to 1979 he also sat in the district council before he was appointed first alderman of Überherrn in 1979, which he was until 1989. On April 27, 1980 he was elected to the Saarland state parliament. From July 14, 1982 he was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group. After one electoral term, he left the state parliament in 1985. From January 1990 Ley was again a member of the council of his home parish Überherrn.

Others

Ley was married and had two children. In L'Hôpital , one of Überherrn's partner communities, a primary school bears his name. The Franco-German parish partnership was concluded on August 25, 1968 under Josef Ley and his French counterpart Albert Mutz.
